Frequently Asked Questions

Who are Brashies?
Brashies is an Australian kids swimwear brand designing bright, bold UPF50+ rashies, swimsuits, board shorts and accessories for children aged 1 to 14. Every Brashies design is made to keep kids visible and protected at Australian beaches and pools and beyond.

What does UPF50+ mean?
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. A UPF50+ rating is the highest available sun protection rating for fabric, blocking over 98% of the sun's UV radiation. All Brashies swimwear carries a UPF50+ rating, making it suitable for long days at the beach, pool and water play without the need for constant sunscreen reapplication on covered areas.
For a complete guide to keeping kids sun safe at Australian beaches, see our Sun Safety Guide.

Why are Brashies swimwear designs so bright?
Brashies designs are deliberately fluorescent and high visibility. Bright colours make children significantly easier to spot in and around the water at crowded beaches, busy pools and in surf conditions where visibility matters. Water safety is the core reason behind every Brashies colour choice.

What is the difference between a rashie and a swimsuit?
A rashie (also called a rash vest or rash guard) is a close-fitting or loose swimwear top worn over or instead of a swimsuit, providing UPF50+ sun and abrasion protection. A swimsuit is a full one-piece garment. Brashies offers both styles. Our girls swimsuits include long sleeve one pieces for maximum coverage, while our kids rashies pair with board shorts or bikini bottoms.

What size swimwear does my child need?
Brashies swimwear is sized 1 to 14 by Australian clothing size. Each product page includes a detailed size guide. As a general rule, if your child is between sizes, size up. Swimwear fabric has some stretch but it is better to have a little extra room than a suit that is too tight after washing.

Are Brashies swimsuits suitable for swimming lessons?
Yes. All Brashies swimwear is made from chlorine-resistant fabric suitable for regular pool use, swimming lessons, beach days and water play. The fabric is designed to hold its colour and shape through an entire Australian summer season.

What makes the Camp Cove Girls Long Sleeve One Piece so popular?
The Camp Cove is Brashies best-selling style. It features UPF50+ long sleeve coverage, an easy front zip for removal when wet, and bright fluorescent colours that make girls easy to spot at the beach. Parents love the combination of sun protection, practicality and visibility. Available in sizes 1 to 14.

What is a waterproof wet bag and why do I need one?
A wet bag is a waterproof zip bag designed to store wet swimwear, sandy gear and damp towels after a swim, keeping the rest of your beach bag dry. The Brashies Cable Beach Waterproof Wet Bag is made from waterproof fabric with a secure zip closure and is sized to fit a full set of kids swimwear.

Are Brashies products sustainably made?
Yes. Brashies board shorts are made from recycled fabrics, and our hats are handcrafted in small batches from swimwear offcuts and repurposed materials.
